What do students need to bring on their first day next year (Monday 2nd February)?
Students need to have a pencil case that contains blue pens, black pens, red pens, lead pencils, sharpener, eraser, ruler and coloured pencils. There are additional requirements for some subjects which your child’s teacher will communicate. This is an expectation for every day.
We suggest bringing a couple of A4 books for the first day. Your child will spend time learning how to read their timetable on this day.
Your child’s Academic Care and Wellbeing Coordinator will also talk to them about being organised and continue to work with them about being prepared for learning. This involves having a charged laptop each day and checking their timetable at home to ensure they bring the correct books and equipment.
How do I organise my child to catch the bus?
Bus passes and schedules are all available through the bus company. You can apply for your child’s bus pass now by contacting the bus company directly. However, please note that the pass will not be finalised until Term 1 of 2026. This will not affect your child’s ability to travel by bus at the start of the school year.
If you are unsure which bus company to contact, our office staff may be able to point you in the right direction.
How will my child learn to find their way around the school?
In the first week of school, Year 7 students meet in the Central courtyard after every lesson. They are collected by their class teacher and taken to class.
How does the timetable work?
Our timetable is based on a 10 day rotation. Day 1 to Day 10 over a two week period.
Students learn how to check their daily timetable on Compass on their chromebook device, they will learn about how to read their compass so they know which room to go to each lesson. Homegroup is a great time to check for changes.
Every term starts on Week 1 of the timetable.

What are the rules for mobile phones? Do children have access to them during classes or breaks?
Firstly, students do not need a phone. This is a family decision.
We have updated our mobile phone policy this year with great success.
Mobile phones must be out of sight for the duration of the school day and should be kept in student’s bags.
Please read our Mobile Phone Policy here.
What is the College expectation for homework?
In Year 7 and 8, Kildare follows the research which suggests the most effective homework is 20 minutes of reading and 20 minutes of numeracy.
Teachers and Homegroup Coaches will be encouraging your child to complete this homework.

Does the College offer any extra transition support for students from primary to secondary school?
Transition support we offer includes:
– O-Day for all students
– Additional O-Day for those with additional needs
– Orientation with House Coordinators on the first day next year. On Monday 2 February only Year 7 and 12 are onsite.
– Students spend the first couple of weeks with their House Coordinators during Coaching before they enter into the vertical coaching group. This allows their House Coordinators to get to know them and help prepare them for daily organisation and functioning in a high school environment.
– Any concerns re: transition needs to be communicated to your child’s House Coordinator (or Academic Care and Wellbeing Coordinator).
How do we create classes to support student’s learning and wellbeing?
We gather information through our interview process about students who would like to be in class together and will be positive learning partners. We also request information about those who may need a break from each other after conflict in primary school.
We also visit our feeder primary schools and gather information from Year 6 teachers about positive and problematic groupings.
This information is collated to ensure we are creating optimal class groups to ensure a positive learning environment.
Students who do not know any other students will be paired with a buddy with similar interests.
Any concerns with class groupings should be communicated to your child’s Academic Care and Wellbeing Coordinator.
