KCC Instructional Framework

Description of the KCC Instructional Framework

At Kildare Catholic College, we embed the use of the “effective Learning Cycle” in our daily practice. This framework guides the elements of an effective lesson and helps students develop a language of learning. It fosters high expectations and a deep understanding of the learning and teaching relationship.

Our pedagogy focuses on matching teacher functions to student learning needs. Highly proficient teachers adaptively respond to individual and group needs, differentiating their approach. They utilise their pedagogical and content knowledge to assist students at different learning points.

We support students in understanding their learning through clear communication of targets and success criteria. Teachers provide direct instruction, modelling, and effective questioning. They facilitate guided practice, performance of understanding, and student self-assessment. Equitable participation, collaborative strategies, and valuable feedback are emphasised.

To guide students in their learning journey, we plan for timely feedback and assist in setting goals. We consider teacher feedback, student self-assessment, and peer assessment. Students are empowered to explain their feedback and plan their next steps in learning.
